Yes, you can wear shorts to the office
Shorts? For work? Groundbreaking.
In case you missed it, TikTok had a field day these past few days after a young woman went viral for revealing her choice of dress to a recent job interview. She was given the option to go home and change (can you imagine such grace?! my cold millennial upbringing could literally never lol) and she was very firm in her stance that she would not be changing. She recorded a video of said outfit and to everyone’s surprise she pulled up to said interview in….
Shorts. SHORTS. Shorts!
But not just any shorts- shorts that were ‘really, really short’ to quote my TikTok video response. We moved way past the taste metric of ‘above the knee’- thigh meat was exposed my friends. Cute? Sure. For work? Not so sure. For an interview to secure a job you do not yet have? Hell no I’m really really unsure.
But that being said, I am firmly planted on the side of the fence that believes that shorts can be an office staple if you style them right. When most people think of shorts, they are picturing something very casual, but shorts come in a wide array of options. Now, will you be the talk of the break room? Possibly. But if you’re into fashion, you probably know how hostile people can be when they see you doing something different. While I can’t guarantee that you won’t be stared down at the water cooler, I can say that the below outfit options shouldn’t violate any office dress codes.
Outfit 1: L’AGENCE turtleneck, Vince plaid shorts, Madewell bucket tote, Staud boots, Mejuri pendant
Outfit 2: Polo oxford shirt, Vince shorts, Madewell tote, Prada loafers, Mejuri earrings
Outfit 3: WARDROBE.NYC blazer, WARDROBE.NYC shorts, JW Anderson tote, Prada loafers, Mejuri earrings, Mejuri signet ring
