I am very intense when it comes to work totes. Your work tote is expected to carry you through a potentially 16 hour day (commute to work > after-work activities > commute home) multiple times a week. And if you live in a city where you take public transit, that bag needs to hold up against the elements and general wear and tear of urban life. The work tote is one of the most crucial investments in the working woman’s wardrobe and historically, they don’t come cheap. (I’m of the assumption that you buy with intention and would rather shell out a higher price upfront which is offset by the cost per wear. And if you’re not doing that currently, stick with us and you will lol.)
But the good thing is there are still some unicorn brands out in the world that are making products that are built to last and don’t cost the equivalent of a month’s rent. But the dilemma is if you’re anything like me, you don’t want to be commuting to work in a bag that everyone has already clocked as the ‘unofficially official work tote’. I’d say personalize it with a keychain to show personality but, everyone’s doing that now too. So let’s just go as left as possible and buy a bag that everyone isn’t already looking for.
